VACCINE POLICY CREDO

We firmly believe in the effectiveness of vaccines to prevent serious illnesses and to save lives.

We firmly believe in the safety of our vaccines.

We firmly believe that all children and young adults should receive all of the recommended vaccines according to the schedule published by the Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Immunizations are a series of injections given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. We firmly believe receiving immunizations as scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from potentially fatal diseases.

We recognize that there has always been and will likely always be controversy surrounding vaccines. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%.

Please be advised that lengthy delays or "breaking up the vaccines" to give only one or two injections over two or more visits goes against expert recommendations, because a partially immunized child may still be vulnerable to the preventable diseases. This may put your child at risk for serious illness and goes against our medical advice as providers. Should you choose these options, you will be required to sign a "Refusal to vaccinate" acknowledgement in the event of lengthy delays. This form will be filed in the medical record.

We are happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about vaccines (or any recommendations we make regarding your child/family). We want to make sure that you have the right information to make informed and appropriate decisions.

If you should absolutely refuse to vaccinate your child despite all of our efforts, we will ask you to find another healthcare provider who shares your views. We do not keep a list of such providers nor do we recommend any such physician.

We would like you to know that those of us in this practice who have children of our own have had them fully vaccinated following the established schedule. Thank you for your time in reading this policy, and please feel free to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about vaccines with any one of us.
