Congratulations!

Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in your life. Nothing is more rewarding than caring for a new life and providing an environment in which both you and your child will thrive. Choosing the pediatrician who will care for your baby is an important decision. At Julio A. Ramirez, MD, PC, we share your joy and look forward to partnering with you on the journey of raising your child.

Schedule a Prenatal "Meet the Doctor" Visit

We invite expecting parents to a complimentary prenatal get-acquainted visit, ideally during the last few months of pregnancy. It is a relaxed opportunity to:

  • Meet Dr. Ramirez and our staff and see our Chestertown office
  • Learn how we handle newborn visits, sick visits and questions between appointments
  • Talk about feeding plans, including breastfeeding support
  • Ask about vaccines, newborn screening and what happens in the hospital
  • Confirm insurance and registration details before the baby arrives

Visits can be conducted in English or Spanish. Request a prenatal visit.

Questions to Consider Asking

  • When will my baby's first office visit be after we go home?
  • How do I reach the practice with questions after hours?
  • What are your recommendations for safe sleep and car seats?
  • How does the practice support breastfeeding or formula feeding?
  • Which vaccines and screenings will my baby receive in the first months?

When Your Baby Arrives

When your baby is born at an affiliated hospital, simply tell your obstetrician and the hospital staff that you have chosen Julio A. Ramirez, MD, PC as your child's pediatrician. Our office will be notified of your baby's birth by the hospital staff. After discharge, please contact our office to schedule your baby's first visit, which usually takes place within a few days of going home.

Preparing for Your Newborn

  • Install the car seat before your due date. Read our car seat recommendations.
  • Set up a safe sleep space with a firm, flat mattress and no loose bedding. See our guide to safe sleep for babies.
  • Learn about feeding. Our breastfeeding basics page is a good place to start.
  • Talk with your obstetrician about vaccines recommended during pregnancy, which can help protect your baby in the first months of life.
